ShitPost.to: a freehoster for donations, how long will this last?

The sharehoster Shitpost.to is not asking for payment for anything. The admin pays all on his own. But for how long can this experiment work?

The still unknown freehoster Shitpost.to is currently not asking for payment for anything. The operator currently pays all costs out of his own pocket and hopes for donations. How long can the experiment work?

CannaPower cooperates with ShitPost.to in the future

For the launch of the sharehoster ShitPost.to, which can be accessed via the Clearnet and Tor networks, the founder is not charging any fees. All downloads up to 10 GB can currently be obtained for free. What is he after, first becoming known before charging fees?

It is possible that he has already succeeded in this first step, because the team of the music portal CannaPower is currently initiating a cooperation. Due to the ongoing problems of ZippyShare, Canna needs more alternatives for obtaining music files. After ZippyShare locked out all German surfers, users are still reporting ongoing problems with malware that is being distributed through Zippyshare’s download page. We have already reported about the incident in detail.

There is a lot going on under the cover of Shitpost.to at the moment. Its creator is obviously working diligently on his project. In addition, he has secured himself well against all outside eyes. We wanted to know more about the protection and monetization of his site. It can’t be the intention that he pays for all expenses in the long run, can it? Privacy on the Web? The operator has long since stopped believing in that, as he tells us. Whether he will continue to believe in the good in people remains to be seen.

„All the money comes out of my pocket.“

Tarnkappe.info: You do not use advertising, trackers or miners. Are you the charity?

Shitpost.to: All the money comes from my pocket, but I plan on making paid plans.

Tarnkappe.info: Are there still paid and in that case affordable offers coming?

Shitpost.to: In the near future, I’m planning on creating plans for storage, a few cents per gigabyte.

Tarnkappe.info: That still sounds very inexpensive. Is your entire infrastructure at FranTech?

Shitpost.to: No, that’s the public reverse proxy, the origin is behind more proxies.

Exposing the origin would make it very easy to seize the (servers and) disks :D (like what happened years ago with cock.li and german authorities or MegaUpload). As for the email setup, it’s hosted on cockbox.org in Romania.

Anonymous uploads are always time limited

Tarnkappe.info: Some Uploads expire never, really? Since when do you have this attitude? Can you handle the load in the long run?

Shitpost.to: The option „NEVER“ is only available for authenticated users, anonymous uploads are temporal.

That’s why I decided to impose the 10 gb restriction. It wouldn’t be feasible to give unlimited storage as other uploaders do.

shareX

Tarnkappe.info: How about multiupload support to „add more uploads“?

Shitpost.to: If you are planning to upload several files at once I recommend using ShareX.

I’m coding a js-based uploader where multi-uploads will be available.

Tarnkappe.info: How about support for the uploading tool ZOOM? That would greatly increase attractiveness for many uploaders and thus downloaders.

Shitpost.to: I never heard of that uploading tool, right now I only offer support for ShareX but I’ll look into that.

upload

Tarnkappe.info: Why can’t you (even if you’re logged in) get to your own download links?

Shitpost.to: The encryption key is not stored on the server, so there is no way for me to retrieve a download link, users are the ones responsible to keep that link safe.

Tarnkappe.info: So this is a question of security, I see. What happens when the 10gb are reached? Is it only a call for donations? What monetization do you have in mind?

Shitpost.to: I follow a „fair usage policy“, you can keep uploading files but keep in mind that it’s a free account (and you shouldn’t exceed your maximum quota, before any ban I would warn the abusive user).

The site relies on donations so if you plan on exceeding the limit, donate and send me an e-mail.

Tarnkappe.info: The Canna community finds it very unfortunate that you can’t see how far the upload has progressed. Do you plan to add an upload bar?

canna power

Shitpost.to: Yes, once I release the js uploader users will be able to see the progress.

Tarnkappe.info: Websites like CannaPower have integrated shitpost.to in the meantime. What do you think about this? Canna is obviously illegal and very popular, even at the police station ;-)

Shitpost.to: I follow a law-of-the-land policy and files are served from Luxembourg.

About CannaPower, I treat them as any regular user and illegal content will be removed if it’s illegal in Luxembourg. Except for DMCA, the site is not hosted in the USA.

„All I’m concerned about is the privacy and security of my users.“

Tarnkappe.info: You have made quite an effort when it comes to legal and technical security. Aren’t you afraid of getting visitors?

Shitpost.to: I am not afraid about the legal aspect of owning a file host or the popularity of the site.

What I am concerned about is the privacy and security of my users, which is the most valuable part for me.

Tarnkappe.info: What other improvements do you have planned? The offer is still quite young. We seem to be working on it almost daily.

Shitpost.to: Client-sided encryption for uploads, a good dashboard to manage uploads, support for more desktop uploaders, and more privacy-oriented tools.

Shitpost.to does not trust or use any other share hoster!

Tarnkappe.info: That is quite a lot! What rulings do you expect for Uploaded.net in Germany and RapidShare in Switzerland?

shitpost.to register

Shitpost.to: I don’t use other uploaders or services than my own. I just don’t trust them, so I am not aware of any court case.

Tarnkappe.info: How do you see the future of the Internet? Will it be completely regulated in 10 years?

Shitpost.to: Nowadays nobody has privacy and I don’t think that is going to change in the near future, for sure.
