Are really all maineditors loudmouths?

I have come across many maineditors over the years. One, by the way, never, because he didn’t attend a party. Mop from ex-Essence never came to a major event because of the distance. The same goes for Adok, the former operator of the Windows-mag Hugi, by the way. But more about that later.
When you look at the writing of some authors, you get scared. Their lines are full of arrogance and have one primary aim: to stimulate their ego. In the early 90s I was an avid reader of RAW. If there was a scandal, it was there. Everyone within the scene exchanged information about what was new in that diskmag. Oh those glory days!
Lord Helmet of Spaceballs
In December 1994, I met Lord Helmet from Spaceballs for real. Zerox kindly introduced him to me. To my surprise, I met an extremely reserved and friendly person who gave the impression that he couldn’t hurt a fly. Although he (Boerge Brunes aka Lord Helmet) was tired and had certainly never heard of me before, we talked for quite some time at The Party. Days later, the Nexus-7 demo of Andromeda came out. Everyone, really everyone will remember the f*ckings to Lord Helmet because his articles were supposed to be full of lies. But privately? Privately he was absolutely harmless.
Rokdazone / Artwork, ex-Infect, ex-Endzeit and so on
I felt the same way about Rokdazone, the maker of Generation. Henning Brau was in pretty much every good demo group that existed in Germany at the time. But Rokdazone was much more intellectual than Lord Helmet. That was also reflected in his written contributions. But RAW’s Scandal articles were the stuff we wanted to read, not scientific treatises on this and that.
The person Henning was, however, was as friendly as Lord Helmet. That was also the reason why we became sort of friends many years ago. In the early 2000s I went to visit him in Berlin. We stood rooted to the spot in front of the statue of Nefertiti in the Egyptian Museum and were at a loss for words, so impressed were we by it. Rokdazone studied psychology and works for Mercedes Benz. Even then, he was very interested in how different elements or colours influence the use of a website. These are important things when choosing a new car. How does a car have to look so that we feel comfortable at first sight? Henning was always a self-critical contemporary who never lacked for criticism, even in personal conversations. But he was never arrogant or dismissive, like some of his articles.
Fishwave of Scoopex
People like Puh (Oepir Risti), Zerox (D.I.S.C) and Darkhawk (Eurochart) fall completely out of the pattern, they were always authentic. Who still had a big mouth, at least at the keyboard, was Fishwave. The founder of Seenpoint did not mince his words. As a person, however, he was much friendlier at parties. Fishwave’s goal from the beginning was to make top magazine a reality. And he was not far from that goal in the mid and late 90s. The last issue appeared 22 years ago, Adrian Jaglarz graduated from high school and from then on preferred to concentrate on his law studies.
He came to visit me in Düsseldorf a few years ago when he was still a student. We went to several parties together back then. It was probably easier for him to have someone by his side who could introduce him to all the other people. Only the beginners walked around the partyplace with name tags. Years later, he erased all his traces from the internet. Rumour has it that he works as a public prosecutor in the Hannover area. In that case, a Facebook profile would only be a hindrance.
Magic of Nah Kolor
Magic is as self-absorbed in his articles as he is for real. He celebrates his past, but as co-organiser of Chit Chat and member of the Dutch group Mirage, he at least had always a firm connection to the scene. That is exactly what Adok has always been accused of. Like Mop, he has never been to a party, although there were some in his hometown of Vienna. As a person, Adok is easy to get along with and coincides with what he represents as an author. Adok is also a bit narcissistic, especially when it comes to his intellect. But he has never been arrogant.
Browallia from Nukleus
Last, but not least, there is the Swede Browallia. He used to publish the highly critical diskmag Cows n Snakefights. And today he is responsible for the charts magazine Versus. As a main editor or writer, he can really let off a lot of steam. But as a person he is the exact opposite. Browallia is warm, friendly and sensitive.
Conclusion
Well, it seems it’s just so much easier to be a wild tiger while using the keyboard of your computer. When you meet people for real, the reality is usually quite different. And to be honest, it’s good the way it is. During all the years we used to enjoy the ironic, nasty and scandal-filled articles. And for that, no one from the maineditors got on our nerves in real life. Seriously, it could be worse, or what do you think?
I really can’t say that about everyone. The illegal scene used to be full of weirdos who constantly trumpeted what great pikes they were. Honestly. Nobody needs that. Drunken or not, those elite guys were constantly going on my nerves while I tried to have nothing but fun or interesting conversations on a demoparty. I think it’s quite interesting. The only exception were the crackers. But they really had something going for them. The loudmouthed rest could only operate their modems and computers.
